Spectrum offers summer clay classes for children

Two clay classes for children will be offered this summer at Spectrum School of the Arts on the Lake, located in the East Building of the DeKoven Center. Space is limited to eight students per class.

Older children from ages 11 to 14 can take “Cool Clay” from 10 to noon July 14 – 17. They’ll try their hands at the potter’s wheel and learn to throw pots as well as create other vessels and sculpture through fun hand-building techniques! The fee is $60. which includes all clay, glazes and firings.

Younger children from ages 6 to 10 can get their hands into clay with the “Creative Clay” class from 10 to noon July 27 – 31. After learning what clay can do with fingers and simple tools, these kids will make clay pots and sculpture. The fee for this class is $60. which includes all clay, glazes and firings.

Both classes are taught by Karla Johnston-Krase, a potter and teacher. To register for these classes, call Spectrum at: (262) 634-4345. Adult classes in clay are being planned for fall. Studio time for experienced clay artists is still possible this summer. For more information, call Spectrum.
