RTG sets auditions for Beauty and the Beast

The Racine Theatre Guild is scheduling auditions by appointment on Sept. 6 and 7 for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, an enchanting musical with performances scheduled on four weekends and six weekdays (for schools) from Nov. 28 through Dec. 21.

A timeless tale of romance and suspense has become, thanks to Disney’s Midas touch, one of the most dazzling Broadway musicals ever and an international phenomenon. A handsome, spoiled prince has been transformed into a hideous beast by a spell that has also turned the inhabitants of his castle into inanimate objects. The curse can only be lifted if the Beast finds someone who will love him despite his appearance. “Beauty and the Beast” and “Be Our Guest” are among the song favorites.

There are numerous roles for men, women and children as young as 10. Those auditioning must come with sheet music, prepared to sing a song. An accompanist will be provided. Tape recordings and unaccompanied singing are not permitted. In addition to singing, the auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and dancing in a group. Scripts may be checked out in advance from the Guild’s box office. All roles are open.

Anyone who would like to audition must sign up for a specific time slot. On Saturday, Sept. 6, appointments are being scheduled from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 7, auditions begin at 5 p.m. and go through 9 p.m. All auditions are at the Racine Theatre Guild, , 2519 Northwestern Ave. (Highway 38).

For more information or to book an appointment, call 262-633-4218, or stop by any weekday from noon to 6 p.m. The Racine Theatre Guild is a nonprofit community (amateur) theatre in its 71st season. Visit RTG on the Web.
