Downtown Racine's next Gallery Night will be Saturday, July 19, from 6-9 p.m., featuring 16 galleries, studios and workshops along 6th Street, Wisconsin Avenue, and Main Street with new exhibits, refreshments and entertainment.
Participating galleries include:
716 Fine Art, 401 Main St.: 716 promotes contemporary visual, literary and performance art.
Artists Gallery, 414 6th St.: Racine artist Thom Petersen is the featured artist. Bringing classic and nostalgic cars into clear focus in his fine art paintings, Petersen will be on hand to greet visitors. The gallery will also have a used art book and magazine sale from the libraries of the member artists.
Art Metals Studio, 332 Main St.: New designs by Christopher Sklba and his staff. Discover the brilliant and bold hand-carved leaf collection created by artisans from Seth and Reid.
Avenue Gallery & Frame, 402 Main St.: A large selection of framed and unframed artwork by local and nationally recognized artists, also art glass, pottery, sculpture and wood turnings.
Cobblestone Ltd., 415 6th St.: An opening reception for the exhibit “Summer Glimpses,” featuring the work of MaryAnn Logic and Connie Sharp. Logic, local artist, printmaker, former RAM instructor and designer, will exhibit pastel paintings, drawings and original prints. Sharp is an emerging local watercolor and mixed media artist. Three of her pieces were selected for Watercolor Wisconsin.
Elements, 409 6th St.: A variety of hand crafted plates created by artist Jeff Shawhan. The gallery will also hold a silent auction of some of the plates to benefit Camp Heartland.
Funky Hannah's Beads & Art, 324 Main St,: Beads and beaded jewelry set within a gallery of regional artists' work featuring paintings by Marj Lacock and Rick Smith, Bill Reid's sculpture and blown glass by Funky's owner Amanda Cosgrove Paffrath.
Hot Shop Glass Studio & Gallery, 239 Wisconsin: A glass blowing facility housed in a rehabbed 1880's warehouse. Hot Shop features a gallery of glass artist creations made in the studio. Glass blowing demonstrations on Gallery Night.
E. H. Mathis II Conservation Framing, 328 Main St.: “Lure of the Sea,” featuring 15th and 20th century seascapes and maritime paintings. Original paintings by Childe Hassan, Frederick Judd Waugh, Francis Swain, Gordon Grant and others.
Monfort’s Fine Art Gallery, 430 Main St.: Work by Utah artist David Jackson, will show work from his current collection of Tuscan landscapes in which he captures the essence of Italian life with vibrant colors and sensational compositions. The show will continue through Aug. 31.
Northern Lights Gallery, 423 Main St.: An opening reception for Chicago photographer Craig Brandt, who uses a complex photographic technique called light painting in many of his images. The technique involves the use of various types of spot lights, where the subject is literally painted with light allowing his camera sensors to capture the lit areas while controlling the shutter speed to achieve the desired effect. His work has received positive reviews in a very short period of time.
Photographic Design, 411 6th St.: "Images of Racine - A Closer Look," a photographic art display by Carol Hansen and Brad Jaeck. The unique architectural features of the homes and buildings of Racine is the focus of this new exhibit. Stop buy to see if you can identify their locations. A framed print will be presented at the end of the exhibit to the first person who guesses the correct locations of all images.
Plumb Gold Ltd., 322 Main St.: New works by Judy K. Olsen using rare opals and contrasting colored gems. They will also have a display and demonstration of wax carving.
Racine Arts Council, 505 6th St.: “Fragments of Racine,” a black and white photography exhibit by Jim Kipfer. along with an artist reception. Also on display is the Ozella Quilt Code Exhibit, a Story of the Underground Railroad.
Racine Art Museum, 441 Main St.: Discover three generations of astounding American craftsmen with free admission from 5 to 9 p.m. on Gallery Night. Explore works by this family of artists in “Moulthrop Generations: Turned Wood Bowls by Ed, Philip and Matt Moulthrop”. Between 6 and 8 p.m. local artist Harold Solberg will demonstrate woodturning.
Upstairs Gallery of Vintage Art, 402 Main St.: Original artwork from the 18th to the 20th Century, including drawings, oils, watercolors, lithographs, etchings, art glass and other objects d’arte.
