City hosts 'Aloha Week' at playgrounds June 16-20

The City of Racine’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department’s Traditional Drop-In Playground program kicks off its summer with “Aloha Week,” June 16 - 20.

Each playground will have a neighborhood Luau on Thursday, June 20th at 5:00 p.m. The “Luaus” will feature games, music, and food. Each child is asked to bring hot dogs/hamburgers, buns, chips and a soft drink. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Traditional Drop-In Playgrounds are open Monday through Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the following locations:
Mitchell School;
Greencrest Park;
Solbraa Park;
Matson Park;
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center;
Marquette Park;
Hantschel Park;
Roosevelt School;
Dr. John Bryant Community Center; and
Tyler-Domer Community Center (formerly Washington Park).

Traditional Drop-In Playground is a FREE nine week (9), theme-oriented, non-registered drop-in summer program geared toward neighborhood children seven through thirteen years of age (7 - 13). Unlike the Kiddie Korner, Future Playgrounds and Sports of All Sorts, Traditional Playground leaders are NOT RESPONSIBLE for how, when, and with who kids come and leave the playground. These playgrounds are diverse, safe, and provide organized recreational activities, special events, low organized games, sports competitions between parks, field trips and weekly theme-oriented special events.

Two (2) college student playground leaders, who have received three (3) days of extensive in-service training, supervise each site.
