AAUW plant sale raises money for scholarships

The American Association of University Women–Racine will host a plant sale and raffle to raise money for local scholarships on Sunday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 2805 Green Haze Ave.

Locally grown large perennials, hostas, wild flowers and ferns will be for sale. There will also be a garden boutique and raffle. All proceeds benefit the American Association of University Women’s local scholarship fund for Racine area women and girls.

The sale will be held in conjunction with the Racine Garden Club’s annual Garden Tour. Admission to the sale is free; garden tour tickets will be for sale.

In 2007, AAUW-Racine raised $7,600 for scholarships through the sale. This May, the Racine Branch presented a $3,000 scholarship to a Racine County woman in her junior year and two $1,000 scholarships for women in their second year of a two-year degree program. In addition, a $1,000 grant was presented to the Jail Chaplain to cover the cost of GED testing for women in the Racine County Jail.

The American Association of University Women advances equity for all women and girls through advocacy, education and research. For more information about the plant sale, email aauwracine@hotmail.com. For more information about AAUW-Racine, go to their website.
