Theatre Guild holds auditions for The Nerd

Auditions for the Racine Theatre Guild’s production of Larry Shue’s The Nerd, a side-splitting comedy, are scheduled on Monday and Tuesday, June 2 and 3, at 7 p.m. The Nerd is the fall opener of the Guild’s 71st season, with performances on weekends, Sept. 5-28.

Willum literally owes his life to Rick, who saved him when he was seriously wounded in combat. Though he never got to meet Rick to thank him in person, he did promise in a letter to “do anything for you.” So Willum is delighted when Rick unexpectedly turns up on his doorstep. His happiness is short-lived, however, as Rick proves to be a tactless, bumbling oaf. The continued presence of this hopeless nerd leads to one uproarious incident after another and a surprising twist ending.

Every role is open. The male roles require two men in their 40s or 50s, one man in his late 50s to early 60s, and one boy 10-12 years old. There are two females in the play: one in her 30s or 40s and the other slightly older, late 40s to early 50s. Auditions consist of cold readings from the script. Scripts are available in advance to peruse in the lobby or to check out of the building with payment of a refundable deposit.

Those interested in auditioning or volunteering for crew positions should report at 7 p.m. on either Monday, June 2 or Tuesday, June 3. The Racine Theatre Guild is a nonprofit community (amateur) theatre located at 2519 Northwestern Avenue (Highway 38) in Racine. The front doors will be open: no appointment necessary.

For further information, call the box office at 262-633-4218, visit RTG on the Web, or stop by any weekday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
