The 2008 season of Music on the Monument will kick off on Friday, June 6, with a performance by one of Racine’s favorite groups, the Roy Edwards Band. The free concert will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Monument Square.Voted best local band several times in The Journal Times' readers' poll, The Roy Edwards Band specializes in delivering the blues in a modern, upbeat context. Led by Roy Edwards on vocals and drums, the band blends elements of R & B, funk, reggae, and guitar-heavy rock with the power of blues.
Music at the Monument is celebrating its sixth anniversary of providing free summer concerts at Monument Square. The outdoor concerts are held every Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. through August. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the live music from mixed genres. Chairs and umbrellas are provided during the outdoor concerts.
If you don’t want to pack a picnic, order a sandwich or salad from one of Downtown’s many eateries, walk over to Monument Square and relax during the week’s last lunch break.
In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be moved indoors to the Red Onion Cafe, 555 Main Street (inside The Johnson Building).
Music on the Monument is brought to you by the Downtown Racine Corporation, Century 21 Savaglio and Cape, WRJN, Lite Rock 92.1, The Journal Times, and Red Onion Café. The concert series is funded in part by a grant from the Racine Arts Council, Racine United Arts Fund and the Wisconsin Arts Board.
