Penguins, aliens and bees, oh my! at Zoovies

Zoovies is back! The summertime outdoor showings of feature films on three Friday nights at the Kiwanis Memorial Amphitheatre on the Zoo’s campus this year will feature two recent movies and one heart-warming classic. All movies begin at dusk.

The series kicks off with Surf’s Up on Friday, June 20. This cartoon follows the adventures of a penguin in his quest to win a world surfing championship and the lessons he learns about winning along the way.

On Friday, July 18, is the family classic, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. Originally released in 1982, this award-winning Stephen Spielberg film features a family and their initiatives to return a stranded alien botanist to his home in outer space.

Zoovies wraps up with the recently released, Bee Movie on Friday, Aug. 15. Featuring the voice of Jerry Seinfeld as a recent college graduate’s (who happens to be a bee) encounters with humans and his quest to “right” the world securing the bees’ honey.

Admission is free for Racine Zoo members, and $1 for Educators Credit Union members. All other admissions are: children under three are free, children 3-15 are $2, seniors are $3 and adults are $4. During the movie, popcorn, beverages and candy are available for purchase. Zoovie-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy this unique outdoor theater experience.
