Live music joins Sphere Madness on First Friday

Downtown Racine will come alive on Friday evening, June 6, during another First Fridays event. From 6-9 p.m. shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants are open the entire evening with special offerings and demonstrations. There is live music on the streets and in the stores. Guests can also enjoy horse drawn carriage rides through Downtown. All activities start at 6 p.m.

Outdoor entertainment is scheduled at Monument Square as well as locations along Sixth and Main Streets. The Roy Edwards Band, which is performing during Friday’s lunch-time Music on the Monument, will perform an encore concert at Monument Square. Additional performers include the Kevin Brown Jazz Quartet, performing at Crosswalk Park, and from New York, Astrid Pierce will perform on Sixth Street.

Other entertainment and special events planned throughout Downtown Racine during First Fridays include:
* The 75 spheres of "Sphere Madness" will be on display throughout Downtown Racine.

* Artists Gallery celebrates its 10th Anniversary with a continuation of a 10” x 10” Silent Auction, a 20% yellow dot sale and a used art book sale. Racine native, artist Greg Helding, is the Artists Gallery featured member for June.

* Jeff Ward will be appearing at Molly MaGruder from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

* Zachary Scot Johnson will perform at Dunn Bros Coffee from 7-10 p.m.

* The Racine Art Museum will offer free admission.

* A special First Fridays workshop will be held at Fired Up! from 6-8:30 p.m. to paint a dog or cat dry erase board. Children ages 7 and up can participate while parents are enjoying the other activities of First Fridays.

* On display at Monument Square will be a children's playhouse constructed and painted by CNH employees. This playhouse is up for public raffle with 100% of all proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity. CNH is one of four local businesses donating a home to Habitat For Humanity again this year. Over 200 CNH employees will donate their time for one week, June 2-6, to build the outside structure of the home. The playhouse raffle will help raise funds for this project. Raffle tickets will be sold for $10 each or 3 for $20. The winner will be drawn and notified after the Racine County Fair in late July.

* From 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. see the Racine Heritage Museum’s newest exhibit, “Waterways,” which will be unveiled on the second floor. Vintage boats will be displayed outside.

First Fridays is presented by the merchants of Downtown Racine in cooperation with the Downtown Racine Corporation.

Greg Helding? As in Racine's best Alderman? Who knew?
